Cape Town International Airport named Best Airport in Africa at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2013

Cape Town International Airport in Cape Town has been named Best Airport in Africa 2013 at the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards™, held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Geneva (Switzerland). OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg became second in the ranking followed by Durban's King Shaka International Airport. East London Airport in East London was named 6th best Airport in Africa while Port Elizabeth International Airport in Port Elizabeth was ranked 8th best on the continent. Congratulations!

South Africa: 12 "Through the Lens" short films

Back in February 2013 we told you about South African Tourism's & National Geographic Channels' "Through the Lens" campaign, which follows the journey of 3 award-winning National Geographic to 3 iconic South African destinations: Cape Town, Durban and the Drakensberg. It took us, for some reasons, some weeks to find out that the three vignettes are actually part of a series of short videos which already started in 2008. Anyway, in meantime the "Through the Lens" campaign consists of 12 one-minute videos. Here we go:

South Africa: 227 rhinos killed by poachers so far in 2013

According to the latest statistics released by the Department of Environmental Affairs, South Africa has lost 227 rhinos to illegal poaching since the beginning of 2013. Of the rhinos poached, 163 rhinos were killed in the Kruger National Park, 20 in North West, 18 in KwaZulu-Natal, 16 in Limpopo and 10 in Mpumalanga.
Despite the increase in poaching, the Minister also notes with appreciation the work done by various law enforcement agencies that led to the arrest of 60 people since the beginning of 2013, 36 of them in the Kruger National Park.

South Africa: 232 rhinos killed by poachers so far in 2013

According to the latest statistics released by the Department of Environmental Affairs, South Africa has lost 232 rhinos to illegal poaching since the beginning of 2013. Of the rhinos poached, 167 rhinos were killed in the Kruger National Park, 21 in North West, 18 in KwaZulu-Natal, 16 in Limpopo and 10 in Mpumalanga.
A total of 66 people have been arrested since the beginning of the year for rhino poaching and related activities.

South Africa: Tiffindell Ski Resort is open for bookings!

South Africa's only ski and snowboarding resort, the Tiffindell Ski Resort on the slopes of the 3001m Ben McDui Peak in the Eastern Cape, has been re-opened and is ready to operate for the Southern Hemisphere winter months of June - September. The resort was closed since 2011.
Developments for the 2013 winter snow season include the enlargement of one of their dams to four times its original size, increasing the snowmaking capacity. The road between Rhodes and Tiffindell has also been upgraded, allowing vehicles to reach the resort (more or less) hassle-free in clear weather conditions.
Tiffindell Ski Resort is situated in the Southern Drakensberg equidistant from the valley communities of Rhodes and Wartrail, which are 60km and 77km from Barkly East respectively, at 2720m above sea level. Tiffindell offers slope lengths of around 1.3km in total, state of the art snowmaking and grooming equipment, ski lifts, restaurant, ski shop, ski school, conference facilities and accommodation for over 150 guests. Tiffindell Ski Resort is open for bookings!

Eye of Africa

Eye of Africa - World Tourism will discuss about the Eye of Africa. Some people call him Richat structure, which is dubbed as the Sahara and Guelb er eyes Richat, Eye of Africa is having a circular shape that stands out is located in the Sahara desert in the middle of Mauritania is not much Ouadane.
